Ego Death

Under the Influence

These are the artists and albums that influence Smoke The Light, according to the band.

Cloudkicker - Solitude

“The rhythm section plays together in a way that highlights each other’s parts, leaving a very steady base for the guitars to do their thing. It’s a big sounding record with leads that will pull at the strings of your heart like “I’m glad you still have a sense of humor” where each part is clear and present, but purposeful and with reason like ‘code language’.”

Toke

“So this record kicked my ass the first time I heard it. Been heavily into doom, bands like bongripper, bongzilla, and I love all those bands but as we all know alot of stoner/doom bands don’t put out the best recordings. And not to take anything away from that because I love those bands and those records. But When I heard toke for the first time I was blown away at the quality of recording, didnt think stoner metal bands put records out that good! Guitars sounded brutal and clear, full of tone and heavy riffs, drums sounded huge and when we went to record it was a goal of mine to put out a high quality recording. In my head I was like if it doesn’t sound as good as toke. I’m not putting it out.”

-Jarett (rhythm guitar/vocals)

“Coming from more of a death metal background. For me I took a lot of inspiration from their leads, since I never had to play anything like that before. Tried to incorporate melodies that would accent the rest of the song, as opposed to getting as many notes in as possible.”

-Jerzy (lead guitar)

The Jesus Lizard - Shot

“When it comes to rhythms and beats and following the flow of Paulie’s bass lines, I always, always, ALWAYS use the perfect bass and drum sections of the entire album SHOT by the band The Jesus Lizard as a reference on how to create an amazing story by beating my drums during the right times. While creating a wall of sound.”
