Under the Influence: Red Eyed Cult

Under the Influence: Red Eyed Cult

A blend of bone-rattling riffs and vicious vocals, Unit 61, the debut album from UK stoner doom metal trio Red Eyed Cult was one of the heaviest albums to hit my ears in 2023. The band pulls from an array of influences while creating a distinct sound that drew me in immediately and has kept me coming back again and again. Unit 61 is featured in 20 More Essential 2023 Albums, and was an honorable mention in the 2023 Q2 Quarterly Report. Here are some of Red Eyed Cult’s most influential albums.

Om - Advaitic Songs

Advaitic Songs

OM

The mix of hypnotic stoner riffs and drums with eastern instruments and prayer song is so powerful.

Weedeater - God Luck and Good Speed

God Luck and Good Speed

Weedeater

The simple but gnarly riffage alongside the crushing tones of this album and undoubtedly evil sounding vocals inspired the shit out of us when writing our first album

High On Fire - Death Is This Communion

Death Is This Communion

High On Fire

Absolute killer of an album from start to finish. Love all the medieval sounding riffs. Pure war music! Definitely a massive inspiration in the riff department for us

Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain

Sleep’s Holy Mountain

Sleep

Super obvious one for a lot of us but an undeniable inspiration to us all. We’re all hugely inspired by every sleep album.
